A Dessert-Like Ripe Pu-erh from 150-Year-Old Bulang Shan Ancient Trees

Yuan is a ripe pu-erh tea cake made from 2020 spring leaves of 150-year-old ancient trees grown at 1,800–1,900 meters in the core Bulang Shan (Brown Mountain) area, Menghai, Yunnan. What sets Yuan apart is its naturally layered honey, jujube, and caramel fragrance — a sweeter, more dessert-like profile that stands apart from typical earthy shou pu-erh.

In the cup, Yuan delivers a velvety, full-bodied texture that is smooth, mellow, and non-astringent from the first steep to the last.

Taste & Aroma Profile

Mellow & Smooth: Velvety, soft, and full-bodied on the palate
Honey, Jujube & Caramel: A warm, comforting, and complex aroma with a naturally sweet finish
Liquor Color: Bright, deep red — clear and luminous in the cup

Why Choose Yuan?

• Distinctive honey-date-caramel fragrance — rare among ripe pu-erh teas
• Sourced from 150-year-old ancient trees in the core Bulang Shan growing area
• Non-astringent and forgiving to brew — suitable for beginners and daily drinkers
• Pairs naturally with pastries and afternoon tea moments
• A refined gift for ripe pu-erh enthusiasts and collectors

Brewing Guide

Yuan is forgiving and easy to brew. Use filtered water and pre-warm your teapot or gaiwan for best results.

Tea amount: 3–5 g  |  Water temperature: 95–100°C (203–212°F)
Rinse: Cover with boiling water and discard immediately to awaken the leaves
First infusion: Steep for 20–30 seconds
Subsequent steeps: Increase by 10–20 seconds per brew — yields 6–8+ flavorful infusions

Quick cup: Use 2–3 g in a large mug with 300 ml of near-boiling water. Steep 2–4 minutes. Difficult to over-steep into bitterness.

Raw vs. Ripe Pu-erh

Raw Pu-erh (Sheng) and Ripe Pu-erh (Shou) begin with Yunnan large-leaf tea but develop through different processing and aging methods.

Raw Pu-erh develops gradually through natural aging and generally offers a brighter, fresher, and more aromatic character.

Ripe Pu-erh undergoes controlled post-fermentation and is generally deeper, smoother, and mellower.

The exact aroma, taste, and texture of every tea will vary according to its origin, harvest, age, storage, and brewing method. Please refer to the individual product description for the exact tea type and specifications.

How to Brew Pu-erh Tea

No special teaware is required. A gaiwan, small teapot, or heat-resistant cup can all be used.

  1. Preheat the teaware with hot water.
  2. Add tea according to the size of your vessel and preferred strength.
  3. Briefly rinse the leaves with hot water if desired.
  4. Use freshly boiled water for Ripe Pu-erh. For younger Raw Pu-erh, allow the water to rest briefly after boiling.
  5. Begin with a short 10–15 second infusion and pour it out completely.
  6. Gradually increase the steeping time for later infusions.

Pu-erh tea can usually be infused multiple times. Adjust the water temperature, leaf amount, and steeping time according to your taste.

Storage, Sourcing & Trust

Store Pu-erh tea in a clean, cool, and dry place away from direct sunlight, moisture, excessive heat, and strong odors. Keep the tea in its original packaging or a suitable tea container when not in use.

The origin, harvest, format, and flavor profile vary by product. Please refer to the individual product description and packaging for product-specific information.
